Exhaust

I have a 1986 IROCZ with a 305 TPI i am rebuilding the engine and all i am doing is I have ported the heads and I have put a new cam in.The tranny is being rebuilt (Th700r4) Now i need exhaust and i am stuck on what to do I am gonna put Hooker LT with 3" collectors but i dont know what to run after them I have to keep the cat but i was gonna run 3" all the way back but i dont know what muffler to run I wanted a 40 series flowmaster But have since changed to an 80 series delta flow crossflow b/c it is louder and is made for our cars. Any input would be greatly appriciated.

Pretty much any 3 in exhaust cat back will work. You are not running that much displacement and 3 in will be more than enough.

i would stay away from flowmaster crossflow system. i know a dealer for flowmaster and he said it doesn't flow as well as other systems. i put a magnaflow system on my z28 and it sounds awesome. it is a straight through design, you can see from one end to the other. the driver side outlet goes through the muffler and the pass. bounces off a deflector and exits. i also found a dyno result w/ the magnaflow, it made an extra 13.8 rear wheel hp.

I would say go with Borla, but everyone seems to dog the price.
I think the sound and flow is well worth it, though.
I have Borla dumped on my truck. Very deep. Flows on the Camaro though (came that way) but hopefully will be switched out with Borla soon, though.

Hmm louder isnt always better.
Even heard the hicks with their popping echo tips drive by? Sounds like a machine gun (and retarded).

if loud is what you want go with a set of chambered mufflers, they flow great, sound even better, but are definitly border line too loud basically all they do is cancel out high pitches. I have a 350 with true duals, dual cats, through chambered mufflers, and when i rev it up real good in neutral you even get a bit of the back fires being heard. I dont think my car is street legal for the amount of noise it makes though nice quite idle though but as soon as you get on it it gets pretty loud

doesn't 3" seem a little big for a 305? I think I would go with 2.5" piping, but then again thats just my opinion.

2.5 or probably ideal but 3 in is not that bad too.

i hate that company because no matter what your car sounds like ignorant people go wow man that sounds cool, you got a flowmaster on there? I would hate to have to say yeah every time someone said that because it happens far too often. Some people dont understand that there is more then 1 exhaust company out there

If you are fast enough, how the exhaust sounds will be someone else's problem
