fuel Pressure with 5.7 TPI

I believe 37psi is stock recommendation correct?
I noticed on the regulator, there was this small like 1/8 nut on top of the regulator, is that a stock method to slightly adjust the pressure?

i know the vacuum line has to come off too.

I am going to the shop next week to put some gauges on it (Charge the ac, do the front end alignemnt, change tranny pan, etc) so i want to verify the fuel pressure while i am there.

if it is aftermarket, how would i know that?
everything is supposedly stock on the car. (except kn air filter and cat back exhaust).

it's an 88 formula 350

what's a good timing to set as the base? we'll keep 93 octane, doesn't have an aftermarket chip in the car.

Re: fuel Pressure with 5.7 TPI

Not sure about a "nut",but on my Crane AFPR when I had TPI it was a small bolt that stuck outta the top and thats how you adjusted it. Sounds like to me someone put an aftermarket one in there to adjust it.

You most likely cant tell what brand it is,but it doesnt really matter b/c they all do the exact same thing.

Fuel pressure should be 38 +/- 2 PSI at Idle, and set about 45 PSI for WOT. Sound like a aftermarket adjustable fuel pressure regulator ( stock is smooth on the top hat), now all you need is fuel pressure gage.

Re: fuel Pressure with 5.7 TPI

i'll take a photo of it and post it. i'd be surprised if it's adjustable, because nothing on this car (engine wise) looks like it was touched.

gives me another idea
i'm peep into the throttle body to see if they put an air foil thing-a-majigie in there, and see if they also put a chip in the computer too.

also
if there is no chip, can i bump the timing up?
is there a sweet spot these motors like?

i know to disconnect the brown wire

on her 90 V6
i went 2 degrees advanced, and it as a slight difference, and still worked on 87 octane for that car (except on real hot days).

i have the msd6a, wires, and coil ready to go in, just need the rain to stop.

Re: fuel Pressure with 5.7 TPI

You can adjust the timing by disconnecting the dist. advance lead (a one wire lead behind the dist. by the firewall - you might have to track it down the firewall near the A/C box) and then start the car. Without the ECM controlling the timing, you can now adjust the timing by rotating the dist, 12 deg. advanced seems to be the best for performance UNLESS a chip is installed, which might call for more advance at higher RPM. Good luck!

If the fuel regulator is non adjustable, it can be made adjustable if you don't mind taking a little time and either welding/having someone weld a modification on the regulator hat for you. It'll save you some serious cash!

Re: fuel Pressure with 5.7 TPI

after further investigation it is an adjustable FPR
and it also has one of those air foil thingie-a-magijies too

so before i do any other playing i want to see if the ECM has a chip in it.

heading to the shop to play tomorrow.
alot of BS tune-up things to do on it as well as install the new front end.

hope the rear lift supports for the hatch come in. the other ones i put on, just ain't cutting it.

thanks for the advice

Re: fuel Pressure with 5.7 TPI

fuel pressure is 40-47 psi with the engine off and it is 40-47 minus 3-10 psi with the engine running
it is also the same with the mfi
