Fuel Pump??....Im stuck out of town kinda urgent

So I go and visit my parents as they recently moved closer. Had a great drive and no problemts. Got here parked came out moved it. Next day almost 24 hours after stoping no starting. It turns over and has a spark Haynes and logic have lead me to believe fuel pump. Seeing how i dont have a carb, I am having trouble checking to see if fuel is flowing. Also isnt the fuel pump in the tank in this car (91 z28 TPI ) ? If so I think i am hosed as far as replacing myself here
So any idea on price range to have a mechanic do it?

It's in the tank. Can you hear it run for a couple of seconds when you turn key to the "on" position?

I coulndt hear anything run, however they got these bugs here, skeeters??sp?, that are damn noisy. I was listending just now, and thought i smelled gas got down to look and saw that some liquid has been dripping down onto the exhaust. Unfortunaly its been raining so i cant figure out buy whats on the ground.

So what side of the tank is the pump/send/retun lines?

I hate to think what a mechanic would charge for it cause they have to drop the tank. Instalation of the actual pump is a snap. But its alot of labor taking down the tank and putting it back up.

Would it be possible to put an aftermarket fuel pump in line somewhere and leave the dead one in? or would the broken stock one prevent the new inline one from working?

no you could do that, it would restrict the flow pulling the fuel through the old pump, but it should work

I wouldn't do it that way.

I would first check if there is fuel pressure. Could your tank have leaked all the gas out? On the fuel rail there is a schraeder valve on the pass side. It is a black plastic cap. Take it out and you will see something like a valve in a tire. Poke at it and if you see gas coming out, you have gas there.

The fuse was one of the last things I checked. I then tried to hot wire it, but no luck. I found a small shop and they helped me find a new pump and drop the tank. What a pita.
