Got my new crate install home

I brought the car home today. After driving it the 20 miles home I discovered the following probs.

1) engine feels like it has 200hp instead of 360hp

2) exhaust sounds like its building up pressure. Sounds like a bug sprayer. Cat. conv. must be clogged causing powerloss. Is it possible this could make the car slow???

3) sitting in "P" and driving car it has a vibration.

4) starter or flywheel must have a couple teeth missing as every few times I start it it grinds.

I'll have to get used to the feel of a stall conv. Felt very weird to me. Its only a 2400 stall. I cant wait to run it hard.

So do ya'll think if I get a new cat. conv. my car will run as it should???

And yes I have to have one to pass emissions here in VA.

How are you going to pass emissions? Did you get the Vette EGR kit to go with it? I'v heard some real horror stories about the SD TPI crate, hope you didn't get a lemon bro. Best of luck getting her all straightened out!

It should pass easily. I kept all smog equipment on the vehicle. I took it this morning but it was leaking anti-freeze so they would not test it. It looked to be coming from under the gooseneck.

After I got it home I saw it was actually coming from the hose connecting to the gooseneck. So I tightened it and prob. fixed. I'l take it in the morning again.

I did clock it from 0-60 on the way home with a G tech. Yea I know. But they are accurate enough for a .2 accurate time. Anyway my 360 HP IROC was 0-60 in 8.6 seconds My old 188K L98 was 6.2 with a Hypercrap, airfoil, and K&N.

I've got something major wrong here. I'll post any good/bad news in the morning.

If there is any question about the exhaust, just seperate it before the CAT and run it.
You can also use a flash light and look at the CAT.

It doesn't matter if you have all the smog equipment, if you don't have EGR, you won't pass the sniffer. Trust me, i had a busted vac line and failed smog before. Just reconnected the EGR and it passed with flying colors. I know that vortec manifold uses a vette style egr that you'll have to tap into a header or something to make it work. Just a heads up before you get really disappointed.

Its hissing. It idles fine and runs without backfires. But huge power loss. It feels like the emergency brake is on.

Yea I have the EGR functional. I'm sure it'll pass in the morning. I mean I hope it does.

Is it tuned? Still using the factory chip? What do you have for exhaust?

After it passes replace the cat with a test pipe and see if it gets better.

I'd bet money the starter is shimmed wrong and causing the grinding.

Is the vibration like a miss or just a constant buzz?

It is tuned. By PCM4LESS. They asked a lot of specific questions.

My exhaust is edelbrock shortie W/a.i.r., 3" catback , 80 series flowmaster, stock cat. conv. it looks like.

The vibration appears to be constant whether its in park or driving. It gets a little worse the higher the RPM. It does not feel like a miss.

What do you need to pass emissions?

We don't need it where i'm at.......or anywhere in richmond

Sounds like you have a few bugs to work out, take the cat loose and rev it up....see if it revs better. If not no need in wasting money

Well I just got back from the inspection place.

It did fail but the guy said it was the original conv. from 1987. So I ordered a Dynomax Super Converter from Summit. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

He agreed the conv. must have clogged up after 1 1/2 years off sitting, the recent banging from catback install, and being 20 yrs old. So I'll hopefully get the conv. Tuesday.

I can get an exemption from emission if I spend a certain amount of $ and it still doesn't pass.

Here is the emission required counties in Va. Only 22 other states have this test. I'll be exempt in 4 years
