Not bad, but with a 700r4, or 4L60, you can disconnect the tv cable for the dyno run to help prevent it from downshifting.

I don't know where you heard that from but I think thats a bad idea. The throttle valve cable pressure that pushes the govenor valve to make the next shift.

IF you where to take that TV cable off I would imagine you would loose alot of of line pressure.

You are correct. I blew out 3rd and OD on my tranny when my TV cable broke.

Re: Gotta love TPI torque!!

It's been proven before to work, and many dyno shops will even do this automatically before the dyno run.

Re: Gotta love TPI torque!!

I really don't know what your talking about.. I work at 5 different places with dynos here in the charlotte area alone.. On top of that I travel around the country working with different dyno opperators and I've never seen anyone do that.. on top of that every bit of auto-tranny logic in my head says that would be a bad idea.

Take the TV cable off your car and take it around the block.. It will slip like hell between gears and not have line pressure to hold higher revs.

Re: Gotta love TPI torque!!

I'm sorry you don't know what I am talking about. Many dyno shops will do this to prevent the tranny from downshifting. You simply ease it through first and second and once you hit third, you hammer it. This isn't a drive around town where you are constantly upshifting and downshifting again and again. It's a simple 1, 2, 3, go, done. If you aren't comfortable with this, then don't do it, but if you want to see your lower rpm numbers this is an easy way to prevent the transmission from downshifting while making a dyno run.

Re: Gotta love TPI torque!!

Your thinking of a kick down cable not a TV cable..

"Late-model GM cars with automatic overdrive transmissions use a sophisticated ratcheting Throttle Valve (TV) cable in lieu of a standard kick-down cable. They rely on the TV cable to control automatic upshifts, downshifts, the kick-down point and (most importantly) line pressure."
