Stay, thanks for the reply. Heres the deal, i droped the silver box but there is not a cover plate with two screws on the silver box. I opened the silver box and its a printed circut board with resistors and other **** on it. But there is not a cover plate on this silver box, i assure you. Am i looking at the wrong box here? Is it different on the Trans Am? Thanks for the help!

OK. I just looked and there is no other box other than the computer. I looked at a 92 bird and can look at a 86 TA SE if you want but I bet it is the same. There should be a little cover on the side about 2" x 3" with two bolts thats where the chip is. Also Hypertech didn't do anything for me.

5 X 5 is a little small, isn't it? I thought it was around 8.5 X 6. X 1.75. At least mine is.

Yes it does seem small, but thats the only silver box there. Also, how many plugins do you have running to your computer, on this one there is only one plugin running into it.

Wallace, what are the numbers on the ECM? The number should end in 165. If not you are looking at the wrong thing OR someone did a swap of some sort. Report the #'s back to us if you would.

Hi guys, i found the computer this morning, its back up underneath of the dash, its bolted in with the multiwired plugins you guys spoke of. It looks like i will have to rip a good portion of the dash off, i dont know if i want to do that. Also, lets say i didnt put the chip in, i just wanted to put the thermostat in, i have read where some say the 160 thermostat is to cold for a GTA, is that true? Or should i switch to a 170

Almost sounds like the air bag brain but I didn't think that 88 had that.

85-89 cars have 2 plugs into the computer
90-92 cars have 3 plugs into the computer

------------------
I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28
Superramed roller 406 10.5 compression, AFR 195's and custom cam.

future mods:
N20 waiting to be installed

Wifes new car:

1995 Z28
AT, leather, T-tops bone stock for now. 250 RWHP 300 RWT 14.0 @ 99 MPH on a 2.2 60'

future mods:
header to tailpipe replacement and a cold air intake. Then I am just going to leave it alone (maybe)

A 180 degree thermostat would probably suit the car better. Sometimes w/ the 160 degree thermostat the coolant doesn't stay in the radiator long enough to cool off.
