Has anyone beefed up a T-5?
My 84 Z has a T-5 and everyone says toss it it the trash if it makes any decent power... This is my first T-5 stick car and I was wondering if anyone has gotten one to stand up to 400hp/400tq of power?
What fails? Clutch? Synchros? gears?
just tring to see what blows them up and if beefier parts are made for this trans!
Thanks
Mike

Yes someone has then it broke again and they realized they wasted their money.
I hear of the actual tranny case cracking under stress. Overall "some" people get lucky and is holding up "fine". But just give it a while.

I'm one of the many people super83z speaks about. I fixed my T5 twice before I just pitched it and went for a T56. You've got an 84 model so they're even weaker. 88-92 are slightly stronger. Mine lasted until I went the ET in my sig, and then broke the next pass. Theoretically, if you drive like a grandma on the street it will last forever. But if you race it, it'll break eventually.

you might be able to go with 4 speed. They were much stronger. It's a shame they're so heavy because I have an extra one. Only problem I can think of is yours is hydrollic (I think) and the 4 speed has side linkage. Just my .o2 but T5's are crap.
