Post Help, my 'bird is spewing oil badly

Hey, I've got an '89 Formula, 5.7L 350, and all of the oil is literally "falling out" of my car. I know that term can't really be applied, but it comes the closest to describing it. I cleaned my plenum the other day and took it out and hammered on it a lil, but when I got home I noticed my car wasn't running worth a crap and shortly after that, smoke started rolling out from under the hood. I checked the oil and it was barely on the stick, and you could trace where I had been because there was a nasty 2-foot-wide trail of oil all down the road. It was all over the belly of the car, but mostly on the tranny and oil pans and my bell housing. I've heard that it could be my rear main seal, but there's a puddle of oil laying on my intake, which would eliminate that possibility, so what else could it be? Could the sending unit possibly spray it out that fast and heavy? Please, I'd appreciate any replies.

It sounds like your intake was not properly sealed when you reinstalled it. If your car develops a nasty leak or other problem right after you work on it, always go back and check the area you were working on.

So you only took the plenum off eh? Not the lower base manifold? Ummm..... Did you forget to use the gaskets??? There really aren't many things that you could have done wrong. Pinpoint the exact location of the leak.

If you took the lower intake off I bet the gasket between it and the block slipped out. If you used the rubber one I bet thats the problem. I used a bead of silicone at the front and the rear.

Question

I'll have to check the gaskets then. Would it make it spew it that heavily though? My car was empty in no time.
