Hesitation when cold?
I'm thinking about buying a new car. I'm going to go look at an 87 formula 350 this weekend. he said when its cold, it hesitates until it warms up. he said a tune up will solve this, but i kinda doubt its that simple. got any ideas guys? my brothers 85 TA with 195k does it too.
other notes on the car: 96,000 miles (half that of my old car ), it needs rear brake lines (I fully intend to question and inspect thoroughly that situation), paint is pealing, and a ripped drivers seat and minor dents and dings. he also said under the hatch is missing its lock, im not sure if he meant that little secret compartment or the actual hatch release. did 87's have the remote unlock from the dash for the hatch? if it does, its fine. my 88 did. if not, can i go to the pontiac dealer and get a new cylinder made for the existing key, or would i have to buy all new ones for the doors too with a new key? that would be a pain.
anyway, thanks fellas!

Well a tuneup would certainly help.
I would check 2 things:
1. Oxygen sensor
2.MAT(Manifold Absolute Temperature.
What the MAT does is, sense the temp of air coming inside the motor, If its cold the computer will richen the air/fuel mixute, if its hot it will lean it out. Check it out.
BTW make sure Timing is at factory specs i believe its 6 degrees BTDC. The MAT sensor is located underneath the plennum at the end.

I'm probably going to go look at the car tonight, so I'd like to have an idea of what to look for. if not, it's fine, its not that big a deal and im sure i'll figure it out eventually. my brother seems to be living fine with his. thanks
