Post How can I stay at WOT in 4th gear??

Well, I finally made it to the track tonight, and once again the issue of not being able to go WOT in 4th came up. I finished the 1/4 at nearly 6500 rpm in 3rd, and I think if I could get the car to shift into 4th, I might be able to shave off another .1 or .2. I know there's a way to do it, anyone know? And how would that affect the lock-up on my torque convertor? Would it just shift into fourth, and not lock up until I let off the throttle or what?

When I had my 3rd gen I could swear I found a chip or something to fix that. Now I can't find who makes or sells it. Has anyone else heard of this or have I lost it?

newby, I bought and installed the Trans-Go Shift kit with the servo out of the Corvette. I am not sure which of these parts did it but I have WOT Overdrive now. TransFixLeo would be able to tell you but I haven't seen him around lately. See if IROC5.7TPI chimes in. I think he knows what will help you out.

Question

When I had my transmission rebuilt, they said they put a shift kit in it, not sure which kind, and said they put corvette servos in it too. So I wonder what the difference is. All I know is it drives me crazy not being able to do WOT in 4th.

Some practice and some street slicks should see me in the 13's, 12's corrected

The easiest thing I can think of is disconnect your kick down cable while your at the track and manually shift. Theres got to be another way but that is free, just my .02.

Well, I manually shift it anyway, so that might work as a temp fix, but I really want it to be fixed all the time for those impromptu freeway races.
And if I disconnect my kick down cable, will my torque convertor lock up in 4th because I don't think that would be good, or will it stay open until I get off the throttle?

The torque converter will still lockup. It only locks up under throttle. I put a 93 LT1 in my 92 bird and I put a manual switch in for lock up on the highway.

Summit catalog says that will make it downshift at 2/3rds throttle instead of part throttle. I definitely think that will work if you have an adjustable kick down cable.

There is a GM kit available so you can shift into 4th at WOT. I can't think of the part # right now but I will post it later on. I installed the B&M kit and it still downshifted into fourth at WOT so I went with the GM kit and fixed that.

I'm guessing you have an automatic. If you have it in D that is just like 3rd. The only way to go into 4th is to put it into OD. Now I'm sure there are ways around it, I don't know any though. I could be wrong though...

Damn it all if I couldn't find the slip for the part I bought from GM. It's called a "Caprice Repair kit" - set me back $15 and allows 3-4 WOT upshifts. If I should find the slip or the part #, I'll galdly post it.
