How do you descreen a MAF?

You have to cut them with a pair of cutters. I wouldnt do it though. If you have to do it just cut the rear screen out and leave the front one in.

Descreening your MAF will net you some more airflow. But you are playing with fire when you do this. If ANYTHING large enough to break the filament in the MAF gets into the intake tract, you have just bought yourself another MAF. They are not cheap. Do the real only if you want to do anything but don't do what I did and do both. I am just waiting for the day when somthing gets sucked in there and BOOM.... No more MAF.

Take off just the rear screen to be safe. It'll definately flow more air. I used needle nosed piers and tore it off carefully.

As long as you run a good arfilter with a good seal, then you will not have to worry about debris taking out the sensor wire.
The screens cause alot of turbulance and should be removed. TPIS said it netted another 48cfm by taking them out.
I removed mine about 40,000 miles ago and the MAF still works fine.
