Question I need 350 swap help

Ok so it hit me finnally today my 84 v6 camaro needs work not to bad on the engine stuff. But the engine needs work especially before it's back to it's prime. So I ran some numbers and finnally realize for all of what I was planning to do with the carbed v6 I coulda completed a 350 in the same amout of time for a fraction of the cost. At the smae time get a even larger hp gain. So here's my question cna you guys tell me speciaficlly what I need to buy to do the swap and some ruff numbers as to what the total swap will cost being it that I'm doing alot if not all of teh work myself. Well not absalutely by my-self my friends dad aka 60something year old hotrod god is gonna help me a little along the way. But before I even turn a wrench I need to write out what it is I'm doing what order to do it in and how much it will cost. Can you guys help me out in anyway ?

Since you are looking at a 3rd Gen application, you would probably get the best results by posting this question on the "3rd Gen Tech" board.

Moving it there.......

i did the swap on my car, it started life as an auto v6, it was turned to a auto v8 and now in that latest installment, it is getting a 5 spd.

now about the swap, your best bet would be to get a donor car, thats what i did. that may you know you are getting the right parts, correct mounts, etc.....

things you absolutely have to change

1.engine, (duh)
2.tranny (the v6 uses a different bolt pattern)
3.front springs (unless you want it to ride like a big ole car that needs shocks, not to mention it will bottom out frequently
4. radiator
5.motor mounts gotta be moved, (to be safe just install new ones for a v8, they are only about $20 for the pair)
6. gonna need the fan shroud for a v8 car

there are some optional things like

1.alternator
2.power steering pump
3. AC compressor if you are keeping AC

those items will only require you to change to the proper brackets so they will mount to the v8

if you car is a 4 spd auto or a 5 spd manual

and you are going to swap in a 4 spd auto or 5 spd manual the drive shaft is the same,

the rear axle is also the same strength. no real need to change it other than to get a better gear or a posi. my car orginally had a 3.23 gear which is better than a factory v8 car.

that should be enough to keep you thinkin for a while

i know you asked for prices but it depends on where you get parts and how much you gotta but new. personally i got a whole 84 camaro for $200, all i had to do was return the body and glass to the junkyard to prove it was not being driven.

email me if you have any questions.

So let me get this straight the reasonably cheapest and wisest way to do this is to find another camaro of the "same" year. But with a V8 some that more then likely doesn't run and jsut chop out everything I need buy a rebuilt kit to make sure it will have no miles on it. Then watch out for the optional stuff and make sure I have ALL teh tools nessesary to do the swap. Otehr tehn that I should be fine ?
