You can remove the air injection system as long as emmisions aren't a major concern. The air pump basically routes air to the catalytic converter to help it burn off unburned emmisions. I removed the air pumps on two of my tpi cars. However if You remove the air pump You'll need to get a longer sized serpentine belt.

You wont have a serpentine belt on an 87,that was 88 and later.

Just take it off and remove the bracket if you can since emissions isnt an issue.

Just so you know, emissions is an issue in all 50 states of the union if its a street car. Federal law says you cannot remove any emissions devices. But if you dont have emissions testing in your area, well there isnt much to stop you other than your conscience and concern for the air quality. Just keep in mind that your wonderful senator Clinton wants to have emissions testing for all cars, so dont throw your stuff away. You will have emissions testing eventually.

I'll second the comment about not throwing it away. Even if you never use it, the next owner might want to.

Taking the AIR tubes off will cause the car to run slightly leaner unless you've told the computer that the AIR should be disabled. Most people don't have an issue with the leaner setting.
