Yeah, this engine seems to have plenty of torque, even with it running as rich as it does. It lights em up without much trouble. I just hope I can get her running up to par easily and soon.

in fact i have a friend on the board with an 87 LG4, he has an rpm intake, holley 4160, cutouts, open element intake and a couple other small mods, and he walked a 5 speed LB9 (TPI 305 HO) no problem....i have a vid of him doin a burnout also if ur interested

Just a little info to clear some things up. The AIR system being disabled will not set a check engine light. It is an output only system. The mixture control solenoid being disconnected however will set the light immediately. Having that disconnected will cause the carb to run in a default mode, and will run full rich. Of course, there might be a reason why it was disconnected. With the MC solenoid plugged in and the ignition turned to ON, engine off, do you hear a rapid clicking from the solenoid? If so, its probably working OK. Make sure that circuit is operating properly before you rebuild the carb. Even though the carb may need a rebuild, it may solve the problem you are experiencing.
And the TPI engines were never technically considered the HO version of the 305, even though they were a higher output engine. The HO designation went to the L69 - which was basically a hot rodded version of the very weak LG4.
The LG4 is a carbed 305 cubic inch V8. In 85, they came with 9.3:1 compression, and were rated at 155HP@4200RPM, and 245lb/ft@2000RPM. Only rear gear for LG4 equipped, automatic transmission 85 Z28 was 3.08. Expect mid 16s decently tuned in stock form. But if you can light em up like you say, you might have a little something done to it

Who knows why its on. You can find out though. Locate your ALDL under the drivers side dash, just to the right of the steering column. Remove the small plastic cover. With the engine RUNNING, use a paper clip (or other tool) to jump the upper right 2 terminals. The engine will bog down a little, and the check engine light will flash.
First code should always be 12. And all codes are displayed 3 times in a row.
One flash, a quick pause, and 2 flashes = 12
It will then pause for a second, and repeat each code 3 times.
Then all other trouble codes are displayed.
For example:
Two flashes, a quick pause, and six flashes = 26
Four flashes, a quick pause, and four flashes = 44
Post results on the board and go from there.

Unfortunately, I'm not too into racing at the dragstrips, and this camaro needs work before it could do much in the quarter mile. Here's the deal with it. It bogs down under heavy acceleration when the engine is cold. Once it warms up, It runs much better, and that of course, is when it burns out good, lol. As far as anything being done to it, all I can see is a set of Edlebrock headers, and a open face air cleaner. I better do the code check thing. I'd hate to see how many codes I pull outta it.
