If you are buy cheap replacements like from AutoZ***, and you run below 1/4 tank all the time, you're burning them up.
They aren't keeping enough fuel around the to keep them cool. My buddy used to hate to fill his tank, always drove around with 1/4 or less, sometimes I'd even have to bring him a gallon b/c he ran out, and guess what? He replaced a pump almost EVERY year!..

Buy a Walbro intank and keep some fuel in it you'll NEVER have a problem..I too removed my working good, old, stock '90 GM pump and replaced it with Walbro 255lph, just for performance sake...no problems in over a year...

As for the current problem...What's your fuel pressure??
Is it backfiring or muffled poping in the intake??
Tried spraying starting fluid in the throttle blades??

How do you know you are getting fuel and spark? Have you verified that for each cylinder? Are the plugs wet?

Most importantly, is the FPR good? Are there any kinks in the line? You might have to remove the line and blow compressed air thru it to see if there is a blockage.

If you don't have a spark tester, insert a phillips scerwdriver into each of the plug wire ends and create about 1/2" gap to a ground. If the spark can't jump the coil should be replaced. That will also confirm the cap & rotor and plug wires as well. Also the color of the spark should be a bright white, not orangey in color at all...
I've bought cheap coils that were too weak, brand new!
Check compression??
Worst case, you soaked the rings with fuel and they are stuck in the ring lands...no compression = no combustion..

You can take your fuel sender out .. with the pump intact. Take it to a radiator shop and have them weld a tube onto the tube down the exact length and angle of the sender with the pump on it. Get one of those sock filters like the picture on the other page showed. You need to have gas in your tank at all times thou. I had a 88 chevy pickup and had to change the pump three times.. Intank pumps only last like two times of running out of gas.. I would say that you also need to get a baffled tank. But those are the hardest things in the world to find.. GM Part # 12509285.. But good luck trying to find it.. I don't know if 4th gens came with a baffle? If they did do they fit a 3rd gen? Maybe that is something that somebody should try out.. If they have or had ones with baffles. Then just put a inline pump in.. Make sure that you put a filter before the pump.. I would blow out all the lines before you do that.. You might have some serious crud in the lines.. They are old ya know... Check the fuel pressure regulator. If you are seriously worried about it run new lines.. P.S. The plastic/ silocone ones are lighter than the steel braided lines.. Keep gas in your car and everyonce in a while check the pressure..

I buy a tank of gas and run it till empty. I have run out of gas several times. My 12 yr old pump was replaced this year because I was doing the tank. Never had a pressure problem or any sort of problem.
