The 305 TBI was the base IROC engine but wasn't all that common as most were 305 TPI's. If it's an IROC for real and an 85-87 it'll have RPO B4Z, if it's and 88-90 it'll have RPO Z28.

its an 88 but it doesnt have rpo z28.......it also doesnt have the rpo for limited slip rear end, and it has drum brakes.....???

Without RPO Z28 it isn't an IROC. That would make it a Sport Coupe or RS. (the RS was pretty rare in 88 and only available in 3 states.)

(keep in mind this is a tbi 305 car)

The RPO's tell you what model it is, not the VIN, unless it's a model with a specific engine, but since you have the base engine it is most likely a Sport Coupe.

88 IROC-Z: www.thirdgen.org/rides/rideimages/ACF4bocUB.jpg (with GTS headlight blackouts)

88 Sport Coupe: www.thirdgen.org/rides/rideimages/ACFbT08vU.jpg (emblems will say CAMARO, you'll have the square steering wheel, and some got the spoiler like the IROC)

Yup, the Sport Coupe. (or the base model) Post the 8th digit of your VIN, it probably came with the engine.

about your rear end...(not your butt! You sicko!)go to a junkyard or check on here for an 93-02 rear end from a M6 car. That way you'll get 3:42's, posi, AND rear discs! Good deal huh? O course if you do that, you need to run new lines and change the hand brake bracket...good luck!

Not to mention if he goes with a 4th gen rear end he will have to changes wheels. Unless he likes the wheels hanging out of the wheel well look???

Yes you could use a 3rd gen T/A or IROC rear-end.

If its used you can't be too picky, but try and find one with good seals. (Axles, cover and pinion) If you happen to run into alot of them with leaking axle seals or a leaky cover, don't worry those are easy to fix. If you find one with a blown pinion seal, chances are the pinion bearing is going bad.

ive been thinkin about a 350.....ive got a 305 for it but i need heads and other small things...not too much trouble (its the stock tbi 305)......IF i want/can afford a 350, would it bolt right in? on the tbi's dont the injector plug things go into the throttle body? if so would i have to customize my wire harness/injector plugs/anything else to make it work?
