A 406 will redline at a lot lower rpm than a 377, remember Ci isn't everything. That longer stroke will give you more torque but on a unibody car you don't want too much torque, these cars twist in half easy, they do better with a high rpm, high hp lower torque motor. If we were talking about a 79 camaro which is a lot heavy than the 3rd gens I would probably go with a 406. I have blue printed a 377 that will put out 580-620 hp, be low maintenance, run 7,800 rpm and this is natuarally asperated, no turbo, blower or nos. All for $6,200 which includes a brand new block, that costs $2000.

Re: L98 heads on LB9
Most people try to avoid turning 7k+ RPMs, 7800 is a lot. That has to be tough on bearings and valvetrain components. Too much torque on these cars can't be that big an issue, that is why subframes, roll bars, and cages exist. My friend had a 500rwhp 454 big block and that thing didn't twist in half. We have to shut up anyway as we've drifted WAY off subject and hijacked this guy's thread.

This guy will tear off his driveshaft and snap his rearend before he needs to worry about the chassis. On any unibody car though subframes and a strut tower brace will help alot to strengthen it.

I had the same notion, but the diff cc chambers wouldn't work.
Does anyone have desktop dyno to figure out if a 305 with a 1.94 valve head(world head) instead of the stock 1.84, how much more power it would make?
10-20hp??

I built my 305 using:
305 heads 1.94 intake 1.5 ex, ported, bowl job, gasket matched
Performer EGR intake
Crane 272H10 .454 lift
Holley 650 DF DP
I`m GUESSING it made around 250-275hp not bad for an LG4 , With a 1/4 marked out on a back road and a stop watch I ran 13.4 with it and she reved to 6200 RPM making power and 6500 she hit a brick wall but I had her to 7000RPM a couple times not bad for my 1st engine rebuild I did all the work even ported the heads myself but I bought the heads with the 1.94`s already in them for $80 BUCKS now that was a steal
