LT1 swap question, wiring harness
Hey guys. My '94 car the x-gf wrote off not long ago, and I am thinking about swapping the LT1 into it. I was wondering, I heard Painless makes a harness that will just bolt into the thrid gen and work with the LT1. Is this true? Where does it bolt into the car, same place as the other harness? How much is it?
What about the fuel pump and fuel lines??? That is what has me confused, will I have to run ALL new lines or what? Thanks guys.

Personally I don't think Painless makes a quality product. From what I've heard from a LARGE number of people who have e-mailed me for help, they aren't very good.
I used a Howell harness and it's an excellent product. Everything is tagged and the connectors that are used are identical to factory and everything is mesh covered. It's a VERY nice harness.
TPIS sells them, and that's where I got mine. They can add or remove anything in the harness that you don't need/want if you'd like. Just specifiy what you want/need when ordering so they can have it properly made. If you call (952.448.6021) ask for Jim Hall. He's a real good friend of mine and he can get you set-up well.

cant help you with the harness part! i put in a harness from the car i got donated from, and since it is more of a race car, a few things that you might want on a street car i did not worry about! i have an 85 and it has two fuel lines from factory. i was worried about it to at first, but no problem!! a lt-1 needs a to and from line. use the factory line from the tank and add a electic fuel pump to it. use the other (i think it was a vent line) for return. i have no problems doing it this way! for safety, make sure you install an inertia switch. goodluck

What is the inertia switch, and what did you cut out of your stock harness? My car is a street car, but I won't want a lot of the stuff. I also don't want to spend too much money on it, as I want to build another motor for it. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for the info on the other wiring harnesses, how much money, anyone know? Thanks.

inertia switch will shut off fuel if you get into a wreck, so fuel dont leak all over the place. i think its more for fire. i just cut the wires at the firewall and ran all the new wires from the pcm into the car thru the old a/c hole. some need to go in the car.

Howell is very good. Who did you buy it through?

I got my Howell harness through TPIS like 3+ years ago, and it was cheaper, but that was a long time ago. Now TPIS gets $595 for their's.
It's worth it though. Not only do you have less hassles/headache but it's also a superior product. In addition to that, they will build it to order, basically. If you don't want A/C or if you don't want something else, they will build it without it, so it's just plug and play. Nothing to cut out or remove. It just snaps into place...
Very worth it, if you don't have in interest in spending tons of hours tracing wires all over hell.
