New Jersey has emissions but no visual check. They don't pop the hood or check your emissions equipment. Meaning if you have a good cat and you tune your car well, you should still be able to pass the sniffer portion. Or when very desperate, I know a couple places that will pass me no matter what

from everything i have gathered the smog/air pump is a giant waste of hardware and has almost no effect on your emissions so i wouldnt worry about that. The problem with the egr is that your car is programmed to be using it and accomodates accordingly. Basically meaning not having it isnt the end of the world but not having it when your computer thinks you do can be the end of the world. Before you have to do the test do a full tune up ie cap&rotor, plugs is you need it, fuel filter, and DEFINITLY and O2 sensor those can have a massive effect on your emissions if they go bad.

QUESTION.....would a hyperjunk chip have a provision programmed into it for the egr?

I personally would go ahead and change the motor mounts now. If they're stock they're probably pretty deteriorated and won't last long to the extra twist of the bigger engine (that is, if they aren't already shot.) It's also very easy to do with the engine out of the car......
Ha ha ha..it took two days and a lot of busted knuckles to do a plug/wire change on an LT1. The dealer charges $300 for ONLY THE LABOR. Even after I put the headers on, it's still hard to do.

Do you even have to drop the fuel tank to change fuel pumps? Many of my LT1 buddies just cut a 'trapdoor' on the body panel just above the fuel tank and it takes 10 minutes to yank that sucker out. Can't we do the same for a thirdgen?
