Is my hypertech chip the problem??
I am having a problem with the rpm's surging/fluctuating with my 87 camaro iroc 350. We went to a local shop to get this thing scanned and we first went on a ride with the mechanic to get his opinion. When going around 55 or so the torque convertor seems to be locking up when I hit the brakes. This makes the rpm's jump up around 350 rpms higher. When the car was scanned it showed that it was running really lean at idle and rpm's surging. They seem to think the hypertech chip is making these problems. They said to get the stock chip and try that one out. The dealer said the stock chip was discontinued so does anyone know where i can get a chip at?? any other suggestions as to why the car may be running bad?

If the problem is primarily an idle condition that appears lean, a O2 on its way out can cause this. As they fail, they loose voltage, and the PCM applies more fuel as it thinks the engine is going lean. When parked, and at hot idle, do the RPM's wander up and down?

Chip............
...I wouldn't think it would be the chip (maybe),I would clean or replace the IAC,the O2, and possibly the EGR and passage ways, also check the fuel pressure regulator. These are the things to check first. If it turns out that you do need a new chip and you want a stock chip try a wrecking yard.

Might call Hypertech and ask them if they have had this complaint before and what could be done to rectify the problem. I'm sure they would giveyou some sort of an answer, may not be what you want to hear, but it couldn't hurt to try, right.
