my rear brake hard line sprung a leak what should i do
the hrad line running from the MC back to the rubber center line popped a hole.
the car- 83 camaro
what are the different options i have on this? price/ cost (i need something cheap that will pass inspection)
what size are the lines.....3/16 or 1/4
what size are the fittings
what kind of flare is it (regular or double? , i know 84 they went to bubble type but i have an 83)
i did a search here and on thiredgenorg but diddnt find much on the pre-84 cars. and i wanted to get all the information down in one thread.
please help me fellas, what do you suggest?

One of the brake lines on my truck rubbed through and started leaking. It was a line that runs along the frame. Mine are 3/16" lines. I have no idea the size on a third gen. I cut the line where it was leaking. Slid new brake line nuts over both ends and double flared both ends of the line. Install a brake line coupler between them then blead the system. Using a coupler is legal to extend the length of a brake line so using one as a repair is also legal.
Brake lines will NEVER have a single flare.

thanks
so does anyone know what size i need?
What am i suposed to do about those little spring things that are wrapped around the lines?
classic industries has line for 50 and 70(stainless) but im afraid of shipping costs. and i think its suposed to be a bolt in job...will it come with the fittings and spring guard on it?
i also saw 25 feet coil of line for around 20 bucks on ebay but i dont know if it would be worth the hassle to bend and get fittings and tools to do the job so it would be comparable anyway.
what are compression fittings... im thinking they arent safe
thanks

OK since you really have no idea what needs to be done I suggest you take it to a mechanic and have it done correctly. This is brakes we're talking about. A patchwork job could cost you your life.

hahaha, im sorry that i came across as not knowing what im doing. i actually have a very good grasp on whats going on, i tend to over ask things to make sure becasue i second guess myself constantly, and to get other peoples OPINIONS to see what they have done and what they think
i also am asking a fact question of what size the line is.
quoting you "I have no idea the size on a third gen"
so then what is the problem with me asking?
so can anyone give me some guidance and not make a judgement on what im capable of doing.
im not tryin to be a jerk steve and i still thank you for your reply

you need 3/16
don't need those spring things
I would run a new line from the front to the back, but if the line is real clean and solid, you can just spilce, use double flares and the correct unions
if it is rusty and you want to run a whole line front to rear, cut the lines near the fittings and use a socket to remove the fittings
I think the size wrench you need for the new fittings is 3/8

brake line size
I have a 1988 formula with the same problem. This size is metric with metric fittings. Not easy to find. I will have to double flare a new piece in because its close to the back and i'm not about to run a new line from the front of the car.Good luck.

ok i think i decided to go with bending up my own line....
does anyone have a recomendation on which tube flaring tool is the best value
if i get the tubing, should i get strait sections of like 4 or 5 feet to work with and connect them together with a coupler?
or should i get one of those 25 foot coils of tube?
is it bad to use those coils of 25 foot pieces
(would they come out crappy becasue they are already all bent in a loop)
