New Motor Start Up Instructions

Hi everyone. Filling a brand new dry motor with coolant...do I just fill the radiator and rely on the water to filter into the motor or am i suppose to fill the motor from a different port? Since I cant get a mechanic out here, Is there any special instructions I need to start this motor for the first time, other than priming the motor...which I have already got an answer too? Thx for your insights!!!

Re: New Motor Start Up Instructions

Start it up and after it runs a bit the coolant will draw down. Fill again to about an inch below the neck. You may leave the cap off while it warms up, but its possible the coolant system will burp air and throw hot water on you. Be careful. After the thermostat opens the coolant level will go down again and may fluctate as it expands from warming up. Top it off after the thermostat opens and put on the cap. Be sure to turn on your heater after it starts to warm up and put the selector on hot air so you fill the heater core if it drained out. Never add cold water to the coolant system when the engine is running, room temperature or warm water is best. After the car has run a while and cooled off fill the overflow to the recommended level.
