Re: Noob to 3rd gen

My first Camaro was an 89 RS with the 305TBI and I loved it. Like already stated, not the fastest but I loved it!!

Horsepower TV did a 305-TBI build up once...new intake, open air element and full exhaust. I think they ended up with 180 horses to the wheels, not to shabby for a TBI considering they started off with 130 WRHP

Just keep the car and enjoy it...I had mine for 4 years then traded it in for the 92 Z28

ROBVAS! I hear ya on that! I dropped TPI for a carb and 150 shot

Definately fun, but if I did it again, I'd find a CHEAP roller cam to replace the small TBI cam, do some better valvesprings for sure, use an AIR GAP intake, and a 200 shot with less timing than I had. My car's 305 went 12.80s with a STOCK LONGBLOCK Valvefloat at 5500rpm big time, DYNO peak hp AND tq at 4000rpm...hahahaha

Even so, reccomending this route requires quite a bit of money. $220 carb, $200 intake, $100 HEI Dist., $350 headers, $40 gaskets, $40 bolts, $700+ for a safe/fun nitrous system, $50-100 for air filter and assembly, $200 new ignition stuff, $74 for new Lokar TV and throttle cables, etc, etc. All rough estimates but you see what I mean.

To run my numbers, I actually did a 3.73 gear, posi, shortie exhaust, vigilante lock up converter, Et streets, some weight reduction, etc.

Goodluck though if this inspires anyone!

nitrious is lame why? i like the n/a set up as well, actually sold my nitrous kit so i could finish this afr headed solid roller 412ci SBC but hey if it gets you the win it gets you the win. I plan on getting another one. You obviouslly have never had nitrous or been in a car that had a nitrous set up. Also with the raw horse power statement i hope you have something faster than that tbi 305 cuz i can guarantee you have none (raw horse power).

I agree; unless you go to the track, or your a drag-racer etc, then it's all about engine hp.

True and not true. Even if you had a 600 hp 427, would it not be even cooler with a nitrous shot?

The car is only as good as the motor in it, but nitrous makes any motor a little more fun :d

Re: Noob to 3rd gen

Nitrous is cool for some, but I would hate having that power only part time. That's where boost comes in

nitrous is lame because i think it is(as in that is my opinion).however only because i think its lame doesnt mean it is it may not be lame for you.true i have never been in a car with nitrous ,but i do know what it does so i have no need to be in one. as for how many horses i have pulling my car i will use the stock spec since i dont really know.
170 horse@4000
255 torque@2400
however that will change soon.
i will be changin my injection system to a TPi until i build up my 350 and spare 700.
the 350 will be putting out about 400 horse at what rpm im not sure since i dont have desktop dyno.and about 450 torque. at least thats my goal and it wont be in the car until it does produce at least that.

Re: Noob to 3rd gen

I have nitrous on my 305 TBI because I couldn't stand it being so slow. I am gathering up parts for my 350 swap and should have it done it about a month. Don't knock nitrous until you try it. I used to think it was stupid too until I got it.

^If it's not all motor, it's nothing
Not only is it illegal and dangerous to have in a street-car, but if you dont have it under the pedal at ALL times, no matter how many times the pedal is depressed, it is quite worthless. Unless, as stated earlier, you are a drag-racer etc

Re: Noob to 3rd gen

I just use it when I am racing, I don't go full throttle with my car that much during daily driving anyway. How is it more dangerous than a turbo or supercharger?? Its not illegal to have, only to have it hooked up to the bottle. I just use it when I race at night sometimes. If you are looking for something to help you in daily driving, no it won't help. But I don't really use more than my 170hp during daily driving anyway.
