I know you can adapt a rack and pinion onto a 3rd gen, but like was posted above, 3rd gens never came with them.
A buddy of mine that does custom work has put 2 rack and pinions onto 2 3rd gens in the past.

Less parts I believe and better steering response.
All you need is a pump and a rack.

Rack and Pinion just really gives you a much better feel of the road. That's what I read anyway. I've driven other R/P cars (no sports cars) and they really do feel a lot better than our nice recirculating ball...I'd be interested if there was a simple/cheap way to do it. But if it was simple/cheap wouldn't we all have it?

im sorry guys i ment to say put a rack off a 4th gen on a third gen. Zepher the buddy u got that has put a rack on them was it one off a 4th gen or did he have to buy one made for it. i know u can put racks on them ive seen that but i was wondering with the k member for a 3rd gen that accepts a rack if a 4th gen rack would work on it. that would definetly be cheaper.

I'll ask him if the cars he put racks on used the stock k-member and where he got the racks from.
