rear disc conversion

anyone using LS1 rear brakes on their 3rd gen? my buddy ask me to help him convert his rears to disc, and I found a good deal on some calipers and an e-brake set-up, just wondering what else I would need. I would assume some brake lines and backing plates to mount the calipers.

Re: rear disc conversion

the backing plates definately
also the e-brakle cables
the bolts to hold the backing plates to the axle flange
the calipers and the caliper brackets
the e-brake shoes
some nice new rotors and pads
new brake lines

Re: rear disc conversion

How about a new proportioning valve?
I'm not sure the old one will work properly with rear disks.

Re: rear disc conversion

the master cylinder doesnt need to be changed
but if you put ls1 brakes up front and ls1 brakes in the back you are better off using the ls1 master cylinder

the proportioning valve will allow u the full benefit of rear disc brakes from rear drum brakes, because drum brakes do not use as much hydraulic pressure to actuate

its entirely possible to run ls1 rear discs with the stock drum proportioning valve
it just wont use the rear brakes as much as they could be used

Re: rear disc conversion

What do you mean by convert his rears to discs? If he has drum brakes now he's going to need to do some fabricating. Drum brakes and disc brakes are not interchangeable.

um, there was a link posted that outlines everything needed, biggest thing is cutting 2 flanges, and drilling a few holes

Re: rear disc conversion

When I said they're not interchangeable, I meant its not a direct bolt-on. I did say it required some fabricating...
Sorry for the confusion.
