I'd go with an adjustable shock, like the KONI's or the KYB-AGX. Both come in at around $90-$95 each and can be adjusted to launch better at the track, then readjusted to dive home.

I am getting some for $27 each and the shop said they were the best ones they had (I get a good price). What is the difference from cheap ones to decent ones and to the high end ones.

No Autozone or Napa shocks will compare to a performance shock. Monroe shocks and anything like them is for ride comfort only. I myself am 100% Bilstein but I have used KYB's (gas a just and AGX) also. Koni is overrated I hated them.
