Sound System

Hey everyone, I am new to the audio scene so I thought you guys could help me out. Right now the speakers in my car are stock and I am missing the radio. I want to get a new headunit, and new speakers up front and in the rear. In time I also want to get an amp, 2 10 or 12 subs and equalizer. I mostly listen to rap and rock. What would be a good setup for me? What brands would I go with? I am not lookin to shake houses from a miles away but I want a good system and I am willing to spend money to get something decent. Thanks.

Mike

I recommend an Alpine head unit with Infinity Kappa speakers. Some may say differently but 2 10" subs (Infinity also) on an MTX Thunder 502 (bridged) is plenty. Not too expensive at around $1500, and will still rattle the neighbors windows. Should be perfect for you as I listen to the same type of music.

I had an alpine head unit, infinity reference speakers (i would go w/ kappas b/c the quality of the reference has gone way downhill recently) and 1 12" JL Audio W3-d4 and it would POUND

I had gotten so many compliments on it, how the bass was lower and cleaner than people w/ more subs and spent more than i had. I also had a custom box made from tweeter so i could fit my t-tops in the back and it wouldn't interfere w/ the sub.... oh and i was only running a 250 watt Alpine V-12 amp, God knows what that would have sounded like w/ more power

so my suggestion is alpine, infinity kappas, and JL Audio and you won't be disappointed, pick a good amp as well there are plenty to pick from

I have a cheapo Panasonic head unit and factory speakers in my '93 S10. I also have an old Sony 55x2 watt amp and 2 12" Earthquake subs in a a bandpass box. This setup, believe it or not, sounds pretty damn good and bumps real well. Don't start saying why would you waste the money on such a crappy system. The truck I bought already had the head unit in it and the amp/subs came out of my brother's Mustang from when he bought it. Why spend money when you have stuff sitting around? I paid $80 for quality wiring kit and that's it. I plan on Polk MOMO component speakers in the rear and Polk MOMO dash speakers. After this I think the sound quality in my truck will be amazing. I guess what I'm saying is...don't go out and spend a ridiculous amount of money on a system for tons of watts, IMO, it isn't worth it. If I were to have bought my entire system I have now it wouldn't have been more than $400-$500 and its damn good. Just my .02.

Well.. my dad works at a place (owned by him..) for a living, and he put his first system in his first car, a '67 Camaro Z28, 327 auto.. and he got his first car when he was 15, and he is 46 now.
He put a 1200watt rms Hifonics Zues amp, 2-300 12' watt Lanzar's(600rms) and a Lightening Audio 2.5 Farad capacitor, a Pioneer Reciever (tuner 5 I believe.. was stolen a while ago, so I couldn't go an look again.) 2 Pioneer 6x9's, 220 watt rms, and 2 Pioneer 6x?'s, 100rms.., and a Hifonics Thor for the Mid's.. altogether this setup cost $3,000. One day I was pulling into an intersection, and these 2 dudes in a Blazer were already waiting in the light. Now, let's not forget this is Dunkirk, NY.. a NYC wannabe town.. so there is some damned-loud cars around. These dudes in the Blazer just stared.. and stared.. and stared some more, until I pulled away. It is *F'IN LOUD* for *ONLY* 600 watts rms.. and I still have 2 12-inch, 600 watt'ers awaitin to be thrown in.. dual voice-coil, 250 ounce worth of magnet per speaker.. lol. This equates to almost 30lbs (I believe it was..) worht of *MAGNET* pounding the bass in the back of my 'Marrow.
