i have a 86 TPI mass air Z28. it has newer roller block, roller rr, 24lb injectors, walbro 255 lph pump, gear drive, and a hypertect stage 3 chip,TB bypass also. it has all the stock censers and wireing. it will only start & die, got the car motor & trans already in just trying to finish & drive.

Re: starts & dies

Take the ECM in and have it tested. I had to drive my camaro for half the winter because my cavalier did the same thing until I replaced the ECM

Re: starts & dies

check vacuum if you have a big enough vacuum leak you will encounter this problem as well dont be so quick to judge a failed ecm. always start with the simplest solution.

Were the heads touched? If you had any work done to them, the rockers may be too tight. It's not the most likely solution, but it's a possibility.

Check all the simple things first.

Start Simple.

Fuel, Air, Spark. You need all three. Now just find which one you don't have.

Re: starts & dies

Try swapping your fan relay and fuel pump relay or, there should be a red spade connector near the same area that I believe if you power will power the fuel pump. It's a test port or something. I'm not 100% on what you do with it thought, apply power or something else.

Re: starts & dies

Mine did the same thing (87 Iroc L98 TPI). Try disconnecting the MAF sensor and if it starts and runs, may run like $hit but it's a start. If this works, check your MAF power relay. Mine was junk and the car would start and immediately die.

Re: starts & dies

Can you runn the motor long enough to get some temp into it? Had a n EGR valve stick open once. Drove me nuts trying to figure out what was wrong.

Exactly what I was thinking. A stuck open EGR valve will cause a start and stall problem.

If you start it and give it gas will it run?

P.S. - Your post about losing the fuel pump after the car is running and then starts back up again doesnt sound right either.
