suggestions on cc305 vs. cc306??
i have been debating on running one of these two cams. i will have afr's and a miniram so flowing characteristics should not be a problem. i understand the cc306 will open up more at high rpm's. i will get it tuned. however, i don't know how each cam will sound. if the cc306 doesn't lope really bad, i think that is the best way to go. i won't use the car as a daily driver but i do want to drive it on the street here and there. i will get a new convertor when i pick my set up out. any suggestions would be great. i am using the stock bottom end for now with a 3:27 rear. thanks
the setup will be on an 87 tpi 350 (L98). i already have all of the bolt ons.

Some of the guys who are worried about emissions run the CC305. I LOVE the sound of the CC306, it's been around for a long time and I've heard in in probably 10 local cars alone, some stock bottom ended, some stroked, some blown, etc. I'd choose the 306 easily but converter wise it's going to want something in the 3000-3500 range to be effective. It may or may not like the 3.27 gears. Something in the 3.73 area would probably make it feel more at home if ya know what I mean. What kind of compression are you figuring to be at? I'd go more aggressive than a CC306 especially if daily driving isn't a factor. A 1.6 roller rocker arm would help it out but something from the Comp Cams XE lineup might get you more lift. Some guys are going to a 236/242 XE cam with 1.6 rockers and it works better and that cam also sounds pretty naughty. Spinning the stock bottom end into the 6500rpm range might be a problem but ya never know until ya try it, right? Goodluck! Sounds like a screamer in the works.

yeah, i was leaning towards the cc306 too. thanks for the help.
by the way, this car is actually not mine. it is a friend of mine. he is on this site here and there. his name on here is shane87irocz or something similar, i really can't remember. but, when we get it running, which may be a few months, we will let you know how it runs. once again, thanks.

i dont know...i wouldnt trust the l98 spinning that high but, what do i know?
cc306 has got a definate lope to it and is used in n20 (pretty sure) applications a lot because of its long exhaust duration
cc305 has been talked about as a daily driver so, i might try an xe cam (i think 224-230 would be more what you're looking for) like autoroc suggested
224-230 is pretty driveable although i'm not sure which gears you need to keep it happy though (3.73s are a must for a high revver like the cc306 and the xe230-236, etc and up)
i think that would make pretty good power, pass emissions just fine (with a little bit of tuning) and get you some good et's
whatever you choose, good luck with it
let us know how it turns out

Well it depends on emmisions, daily driver, how high does he want to spin the motor. You could have a custom cam ground depending mostly on how the heads flow, emissions, and where he wants peak power. If you want one off the self consider the xe230/236, the gm847, or combination motor sports has 227/233 and a 233/236, I believe. Either way it does sound like a nice set up. Good luck.

So the 306 and the 305 and all the names I've heard for LT1 cams apply the same to L98?
I've got a 306 in my LT1 and I love it. It could use a better tune, though, as it surges like a sonofabi*ch in parking lots and in traffic (basically low rpms). Other than that, it lopes pretty good...especially when the A/C is on.

I am pretty sure there are 2 versions of the 306, the 114LSA and the 112 LSA.
112 lopes more and the 114 is what you want if you plan on running the gas.
A buddy of mine has a 94 Formula with a 355 with 306 114lsa and 150shot, T56 and runs high 10's.

You'll probably get a good 20-30 rwhp more w/ the CC306, but less power below 3000 rpm, and it won't really open up much more until after 4500-5000 rpm. I'd go with the 306 since it's not a daily driver, if emissions aren't a problem, and you don't mind spinning your stock bottom end L98 to 6700 rpms.
I don't think the 306 will like the 3.27s in an auto either, so plan on changing those out as well.
