T5 swap questions
alright... I just finished up a T5 swap in my 2.8l Camaro. Back when it still had the 700r4 in it, we got a junkyard V8 rearend and put it in b/c the old one was whining a bit. 70mph + 3rd gear = ~3000rpm. Tires are taller than stock, but I dont remember the size. Anyway, friend of mine said I probably have 2.73s in the rearend I have now.
Now assuming I have 2.73s.... compared to the stock 3.42s I should have... would I notice any differences other than being slower? Too much strain for around town driving? What about cruising on the interstate? Keep in mind that I have pretty much no torque and no top end
Im thinking about getting some stock gears out of a 3rdGen V6 in a junk yard to see if I can do better around town with gas, but would like some input I guess. I realize the less-steep gear would generally yeild better MPG, but there must be a limit....especially if you have absolutely no torque right?
I get ~13mpg around town... but I stuck a Tech 1 on the car and it set off MAF sensor, O2 sensor and the timing was off. I replaced the O2 sensor today along w/ the fuel pump, should have a MAF sensor coming in the mail soon and we might mess w/ the timing tomorrow.
...that and anything I can do to pull out into traffic... and have to worry less about not being able to accelerate fast enough to keep from getting hit..... is a plus heh. Being slow sucks

2.73s with a 2.8? Ugh. I can't even imagine how bad that must be. All the 2.8 cars had the 3.42s, so I'd pull apart your old rear and see how the gears look. If they look good, throw them in your new rear. If not, 2.8 f-bodies are a dime a dozen in the junk yard so I'm sure you can score a rear real cheap.
