t56 tranny

my tranny got stuck in 4th gear.. i parked it and put it in 4th... ( i have no emergency brake) .. and when i crunk it back up like a week later it was stuck in 4th.. well i drove it around and beat it out.. if i shifted into 4th it gets stuck everytime.. every other gear feels just fine.. and it doesnt seem to grind when it goes in.. just gets stuck there... i always had problems with 3rd popping outta gear for awhile now.. the question is : Is the 3-4 shift fork just bent ? .. or am i need of a total rebuild.. keep in mind i am very "poor" lol.. i work an 8 dollar an hour job lol.. looking for the cheapest way out untill i can save for a total rebuild..

thanks

corey

sounds like your 3/4 synchros are shot...and i mean shot.

i don't think it's a horrible cost to rebuild it...call around. just take it to a reputable shop...they love to tell you that the whole thing is shot, just so they can get more money

You should cultivate friendships with mechanics. That way when you are in this situation, you can get them to work for cash. Look at it this way, they might make 15+ an hour and then they have taxes. You pay them $25-35 an hour cash and they are making way more than they would have working at the shop and you are paying way less than sending it into the shop

How soon will you be coming into the money to go over the whole tranny? Find out if it costs a whole bunch more to do it all right than to fix one part and have another fail and take out what you fixed.

That's fairly close the what my T-56 was doing before I got it. In fact, that's the whole reason the guy sold it to me for $500. I stuck a $16 3-4 fork and a set of shift fork pads in it and it's been shifting perfectly ever since.
