Question TBI Buildup!!!!

This for my '91 Caprice, but I thought you guys wouldn't mind helping. Of course I will be using a '87+ 350 Roller Block, stock crank, and close to 10:1 CR. I have been looking at a set of late model style Edelbrock heads. I am looking to get 300+ from the motor. This is for my fiance's '91 Caprice Classic. It currently has the original TBI 305/700R-4 with 260,000 miles and still running strong. But I am getting my *** kicked alot, so a new motor is under construction soon. What's the biggest roller cam I can run without causing the ECU to freak out? Several people have suggested the stock LT-1 roller cam with 1.6:1 rockers, other claim the ZZ4 cam can be used (w/1.5:1 rockers) and the CPU is fine with it. I thought about building a stroker, but I wasn't sure what the TBI will handle. I already have a late model 383 in my Camaro, but it is still using the stock 305 Q-jet. Suggestions? The rest of the car is stock with a 3.42 posi rear and I have added a Corvette Servo, and a flowmaster. I guess I want to run with those damn '94-'96 Impala's (in their stock form). I want to keep the TBI, I like the stock injection look. Another thing is the car has to be SMOG'd (California). Thanks guys.

If you go with a 350, then the LT1 cam will be too small. Im not sure on the ZZ4 specs off the top of my head, but if it were my car Id run something with about .525 lift. If you dont have the money for a custom chip, get an LO5 (350 tbi) chip from a caprice or truck or whatnot, the 305 chip isnt what you want in your 350.

NJSPEEDER is running the Edelbrock ETech heads with a lot of success, but you might look at the GM Fastburns, also. Both of the mentioned heads need a special manifold. Im going to be running vortec heads and I went with the Edelbrock Performer RPM Vortec as seen here:

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Thanks Chuck!

I don't think the either heads you mentioned have EGR risers though. I live in lovey state of California, so smog is a very big thing.

The specs for the ZZ4 cam is .474/.510, 208/221 dur@0.050", 112 LSA.

Nope, I dont think any of the vortec style heads do have EGR, but you can run an external egr from your header/manifold to the intake manifold. GM makes a TBI manifold for Vortec style heads that accepts the EGR. PN: 12496821

Other parts:
GM Exhaust Manifold #12557828
Edelbrock External EGR Adapter Ket #2899 (headers)
GM EGR Supply Tube to connect them #10220275

You might want to check the LT4 hot cam or the tpis ZZ9 cam

I have some vortec heads for sale including rockers, and valve covers for sale for $220 + shipping. If you want a good, cheap cam, go with a hotcam it's stats are: 218/228 .525/.525 w/1.6 112 LSA with the springs, retainers, locks, and 1.6RR's it is still under $500. You can't beat that.

95 White t-top Z28 M6 Mods include: Macs w/ offroad pipe, flowmaster, airfoil, TB bypass, !EGR, !AIR, !CAGS and a hurst short throw shifter. Many more to come. I will have some times after I break in my motor.
