Third gens only..Please.

The reason I am ask for third gens only is because it is related to what I have and want. I will be looking for new tires in the near future and am thinking of going to a differant speed rated tire other than Z in order to save a few bucks, and I am courious as to what speed ratings other people have or have tried on there Z's. I would like to know A) brand, B) speed rating, C) how they handle(wet & dry), D) how many miles you have or got with them, E) were they noisy? (1-5 rate), F) why you picked them, and would you buy them again? I don't need to hear about drag tires just road tires. Thanks to all!

what do you have under the hood of that bad boy? I have an l98 so i would never put anything less then a Z rated tires because id hate to be flying down the highway and accidentally exceed the limits of my tires.

I've got BFG Comp TA V rated tires, 245s on the front and 255s on the back. V-rated covers up to 149mph, I figure that's plenty... Got em for like $110 each on Tirerack.com or thereabouts, then paid like $30 to get em all mounted/balanced at a local tire place. Pretty happy with em.

I have Daytona HR's all around. 245/50. If your tires are rated at 90 mph, this doesnt mean that your tire will shread at 90 mph. The speed rating on those are just there to show that under perfect road and weather conditions, the tire will perform well. They have to underate them so they wont get sued when something goes wrong. HR's arent that expensive, and they handle very well in the rain. They're directional so, they downfall in them is that you have to take every one of them off to rotate tires. But they're, inexpensive, good in rain, can handle a decent speed(you should'nt be going any faster than they say to on the road anyways).

i use to have michelin pilot 245/50/16 hr's on my chrome 91 wheels and loved them over others i've used like kelly, bfg, nitto, etc.

i've tried alot more on my various 18" wheels but i wouldn't be able to compare them. i'm running y rated tires right now but they are so wide that as an all purpose tire they are useless.

i recommend michillen pilots of you can afford them next best thing to a drag radial in my opinion when i went to english town i warmed em up and ran 2.360ft with street tires not to bad for an aged 305tpi those tires rule if your looking to sacrifice grip for money the kumho ecstra supras are amazing wet tires but where down quick like 90 bucks a piece

over a year ago i picked up some Kumho's with the H rating, In my opinion these are good tires for the price. I have put about 15,000 miles on them and they are holding up good. When i jump on the gas i don't spin out all over just the usually short tire spin and then the kick as they grab the ground. I went with these because I didn't have the cash to spill on the Yokohamas. Hopefully this can help you out alittle.

I have the Comp T/A VR4s on my GTA...255s all the way around. I've been happy with them. I like them better than the Eagle F1s I had on it before these tires.

I've always purchased Goodyears and paid the price until the last tire change. Two years ago, I decided to try "cheaper" tires. I chose Sumitomo HTR 50Z's. They've lasted over 15k so far and my tread depth is still 7/32". Check this out:

P245-50ZR/16 96W
They are W speed rated (up to 168 mph),
Treadwear: 360
Traction: AA
Temperature: A

Cost: $83 per tire at Tirerack.

I'm buying another set once these wear out..... if they wear out!!

a)Kuhmo 711s 245/50/16" $56 each at tirerack.com

b)HR?

c)wet, best out of GS-Cs, cheap yokohomos(A-60?maybe)and Radial TAs, Full tread depth was similar to dry traction in 2nd gear or higher, now(at wear bars) spin with ease in 1, 2, 3 gears in rain.
Dry, noticibly worse than GS-Cs on street, same or better at track, pretty consistant 2.0x with bog/no spin or 2.1x while spinning. 5 spd car.

d)~1 yr and ~10,000 miles, rear are basically to wear bars, ~15% left, front ~50% left

e)NO, GS-C=4(loud), Kumho 711=~2 (not noticible)

f)They're CHEAP, I'll probably buy Comp KD's(KWD's) or a "R-compound" autocross tire next. Although they(711s) seem to work good/great at the track, they spin on the street and actually seem to wear quicker than the GS-Cs (due to smoke from 2nd gear turns and leaning into WOT) I had, which gave me much more "street" traction and confidence while turning mostly.

Whatever happens to be in the bargin bin. Wide and cheap. Speed ratings are a load of crap, I driven over 160 on crap cheap tires and have held speeds in excess of 120 for stretches over half an hour. Only difference I notice is that old dry or hard compund tires smoke up easier and make a thicker smoke as well. A softer tire will generally hold the road better.

dont worry about speed ratings worry about tread wear and traction you will probably never see the speed that z rated tires are rated at . seeing how speed ratings are rated by how fast the tire can handle a corner
