TPI block w/ 400sbc heads would LT1 intake work

I'm trying to convince my friend to change his TPI intake to an LT1 intake but he told me that he has chevy 400 sb heads. Now would the LT1 intake still work? Would he have to open upthe intake ports alittle?

Other than the regular modifications needed to retrofit the LT1 intake to a SBC, nothing else AFAIK. Check out www.LT1Intake.com for the needed changes.

NOTE: Wait, not sure but 400 heads have something weird with the coolant passages don't they?

Are you talking in general or about modd'ing the LT1 intake? The intake needs modifications because of other things, mainly a rear mount distributor. He'll need custom fuel lines and a remote T-stat housing. Those are available from John at www.LT1Intake.com. Email him with any questions, real helpful guy:

400 SBC heads use a steam passage. I don't think they will work on a regular 350 (could be wrong) without patching the holes. Everything else should be the same though.

Yeah, I had a 406 I was building for a freind about a year ago. Had to have a shop drill the Dart heads so they would work. I didn't trust myself enough to drill on a set of two thousand dollar heads.

by using a 350 head gasket, the steam holes will be plugged.

there must be something i don't know about these heads then. Steam??? HMMMM i will have to ask then.

I know about the moding for t stat and distributor and bolts and fuel lines but as far as the normal mods i didn't know if it had to any major moding to make it work.

ok to answer your question. the lt1 intake will still fit the 400 sbc heads. they are the same as all the other sbc heads. as far as intake bolt pattern goes.
