Question Turbo400

I'm back in Phoenix now, and finding out more about the car I may purchase, and it has a Turbo400 Transmission in it. I don't know ANYTHING about transmissions, is this a good transmission? It is not the original tranny.

While driving it, I noticed the RPMs at 2,000 at 60 MPH, almost exact. Thats about what my truck does back home.

Is there anything I should know about this transmission? From what I hear, it's a 3 speed?

Thanks!

could always change gear ratios so it isn't so extreme....

its the same problem i'm running into, those tranny's much like the 350 version as well hold up to alot more power than the week 700-r4.

i myself want overdrive so i've been fighting trying to find a way to build one to hold some good street power. doesn't look possible though.

i wouldn't be afraid of it so long as you know what your buying and aren't expecting something different.

With stock tires and with OD at 55mph I get 2000 rpm. That being said, I have 3.73 gears. With stock configuration, I get 1750 on OD with 3.23 gears. I would suspect thta you have 3.23 or lower ration gears.

Is it a problem? Yes and No. It depends. If you went to 3.73 gears, yes. If not and you make short trips, no

I only have a plan for one long trip with in the next 2 years, from Arizona to Louisiana and back. The rest of my travels will basicly be from my appartment to college and back, and to work and back (when ever someone will higher me!!).

I don't know much about gears either so 3.23 gears are more low end than stock? Sorry if I dont' quite understand that. hehe!

So if it does have 3.23 gears, I don't think it would be a problem, because my truck back home (with overdrive) ran almost the exact RPMs at 60MPH. But its a truck, and ment for hauling I guess

So for normal intown driving, it sholdn't be any problem then, riight?

How could I tell exactly what the gears are? I guess just count the teeth? It doesn't really matter to me, because I drove it around both in town and on the interstate, and I loved how it drove!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!
