value of TPI system from 87z28
i have a parts car sitting at my parents place in NY. most of the car is junk exept for the engine, tranny and rear.
what is the value of the tpi system on it?
or the engine whole, with the tranny...87k miles?
would like to sell it whole, but if not i'm gonna make a trip up and strip the hell outta it and part it out.

holy ****...
$1000
i'd come to your house and cook you dinner too if you paid me that much...
wow...i was expecting under $500 comments...
here's a question:
when buying somehting like that, is it worthwhile to pull all the wiring harness or is it just as easy to sell it without that and just pick up a standard Painless Wiring harness for it?
if i just pull the major mechanical stuff, and the ecm and sensors...

TPI is worthless...what drugs are u on dude??? my dad bought an 86 IROC for like $400 or so. it was abandoned at the local chevy dealership we do a lot of work with so we picked it up for cheap. we got it running and drove it home (on about 6 or 7 cylinders) it was a 305 TPI,700R4,and a disk brake 10 bolt rear end. we sold the whole TPI intake, harness, and computer on EBAY and it went for a little over $500 i recall. selling that alone paid for the car. i totally stripped it of useful parts that i still have laying around the garage (email RobZombie35@aol.com if ur looking for something). so if i was you,i would try to do the same thing, and then sell the tranny and rear end and then get the car towed away.
good luck

aklim you towel headed basterd. did you not notice the torque on tpi system the torque that could hold up nice to a corvette. there very much worth a lot. my little 305tpi held its ground in first gear agianst a 350 ls1. but we wont talk about after first gear.

I wouldnt say TPI is useless. Although I dont like the base system it provided some interesting opportunities. Like Aklim said the sensors, harness, computer etc are worth more ot most than the actual intkae. Just because if you have the whole harness and computer set-up you can easily switch to one of the aftermarket systems like a Super Ram Holley SR etc with no problem. Basically just need better injectors and a burnt chip if your already set up for TPI.

some interesting info guys...thanks
unfortunatly it is only the 305...would've been nice to have the 350 for the block and if nothing else the bigger injectors and the ecm for it.
and the rear is drum brakes...sucks...my old iroc had disks thought.
what really sucks is that the car is sitting in NY and i'm in south florida...so unless i strip it and rent a truck to haul it back...i'd only be able to sell the big stuff.
but like i said...the whole thing only had 87K miles.
thanks guys...i appreciat the input

You could easily sell the whole TPI intake, computer, sensors, and wiring harness for $400-$500ish. It may not be ideal for absolute performance but TPI is a hot item for swapping onto old non-fuel injection setups, etc. Easy to sell...
Don't know about what the whole drivetrain is worth, as I wouldn't give you two cents for a 305 TPI auto drivetrain, but somebody somewhere probably wants it... A grand maybe??
When you start adding up all the little parts, interior stuff, wheels, any body panels or t-tops that are still usable you could get alot of money for it. Post ads for the parts here and on the classifies at thirdgen.org and you'll sell any of it that is worth squat...

sellig the little things would be nice....
BUT...
the car is 1500miles from me, so anything i could strip off in a weekend and stuff into boxes and cart back to florida would be what i could sell.
i could leave the block, tranny and rear with my dad, but i don't want to hassle him with boxxing and shipping a hundred "little things"...
hell we only paid $1500 for the whole car 5 years ago, cut the front clip off and half the front suspension to rebuild my IROC...so if i get anything out of it i'd be happy.
