GM never made 5.7L manual trans third gen cars. Well, I heard they made 50 '86 Camaros, but those are long gone or in the hands of collectors.

Should be RARE, since GM NEVER made a STOCK 3rd Gen car
as you posted. May be thats why you can not find any info on this car.

Yea somebody most likely just swaped a 350 into a 305 car. How long has your buddy had that car? Im suprised the 5 speed is holding up to the 350. Has he ever had to get the tranny rebuilt?

Second thought on that 350 5sp, Its just a 305 TPI. A another case of someone selling a car with a 350, SURE it is! One on E-bay right now. Calling it a 350 with the Vin indicates a 305. Now that not Rare.

maybe he got real lucky and the guy wasnt lieing and it just has something like a richmond 5 speed in it? But chances are that its a 305 and the guy who sold it just lied.

Happened twice to me, people passing off a 305 as a 350.

If its really a 350 then its more likely a motor swap. Thats much easier than putting the hydrolic clutch system in an automatic car. But I agreewith the other guys its just as likely that the car is just a 305, and he just thinks its a 350.

you think this is one of those cenarios where if he thinks its a 350 he can just use mind over matter to get his car to run like one? maybe that saying doesnt always apply

Kind of surprising how many guys try to get away with that. A local car lot owner tried to pull that stunt with me. Had an '88 IROC-Z on his lot with '5.7 Tuned Port Injection' badges on the rear bumper, and a torn out SPID decal in the glove box. One glance at the 8th digit of the VIN ('F') told me it had a 305, and not a 350 TPI ('8'). A look at the tach also showed it to be for a automatic trans. 305 (5000 RPM redline vs. 5500 for the 350).

I told him his car was a 305, and showed him how I could tell at a glance. I also mentioned in an off-hand way, that 'someone' was trying to pass off a 305 as a 350, but obviously doesn't know how easy it is to tell the difference. He he said he was just a salesman, but that he would let the lot owner know. To his credit, the next day I went back down there again and they had taken the '350 engine' part off the for-sale sign.

As for these 50 manual cars in 86. First off most records indicate that there were only a few of the 50 cars that were supossibly manuals with the 350s. Secondly, better records show, that they infact were all autos. I have heard both sides of the argument and i supported that there were manuals untill i got better info on the matter and found out i was actually incorrect According to a book GM had its hand in writing. If you have any questions talk to Jim85Iroc, i dont have the book on hand right now, but he'll straighten out any discrepencies over the issue.

I was responding to dave89gta, sorry i didnt use a quote. A far as the issue, i felt it was summed up by about the 3rd post, so i dont see the problem. I always wonder when a simple question gets 70 similar replies. It happens more in othre forums.
