What happens if I don't plug the header where the air pump vavle is suppose to be?

Hi, I was just wondering what would happen if the air pump hook up on the header was not plugged or capped after taking the air pump off?

cut it off and weld it, or pinch it shut and fold it over.

I have the plumbing caps on mine and we welded them shut and another car I was justing wondering since I work on cars once in awhile what would happen if we did not close them port ( if it would burn a vavle or not).

I use plumbing caps not rubber. Letting air in there gets contaminates the exhaust stream and makes it look lean and then the O2 sensor will tell that to the ECM and the ECM will dump gas. Excess gas. If you plug up the driver side, you will be fine. If you don't, you will have problems. The pass side has no effect.

Unless you have modded your car like one of the members in this sub-board, you have 1 O2 sensor and that is in the driver side where the tubes all collect so as to get a general reading as to what that bank is doing. From there, assuming all things are equal, the ECM will use that and infer what the other bank is doing.

When I removed my AIR system I had Edelbrock's TES on the car. The driver's side header AIR connection was creating a horrible exhaust leak. The car ran really rough (probably due to O2 readings), and the exhaust system had afterfire like crazy.

Click here for link to another post with links for pictures. You'll see my reply about 1/3 way down.

Upper is 2002 Corvette Electron Blue with 2002 GM Sebring Silver GFX. The GFX match the wheels almost exactly.

Cost? $625! I work for a Lincoln/Mercury dealer and had it done at our bodyshop. Professionally painted for $500 labor and $125 materials. Most of the prep I did myself like removing emblems, lights, and minor things. The bodyshop guys popped out a few dents, repaired a couple of areas that were beginning to corrode under the old paint and removed as much old paint as they were comfortable with. Looks fantastic (pictures suck), every bit as good as a new car. AND it's still under our dealer warranty.
