what I would need to swap a 400 into a 87 tpi 305 car?

The trans., vacuum line, trans. cross member, may need to shorten the drive shaft, will need to check the ring gear make sure the torque converter mounts. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/gf...ers_.htm#th400

I think he's talking about a 400 engine not trans.... Get a 85 tpi intake base (so the tpi will fit older style heads) larger injectors (24# should work) and a custom chip. use the 305 pulleys, accessories and flywheel. you may need to use headers due to the oil dip stick is on the other side and will hit the stockers. There maybe a few more things but this will give you an Idea. Goodluck

This is true, But if you have someone port the hell out of the base , go with SLP runners and a larger trottle body you might be ok. Keep us updated. Goodluck!

I would NOT use the TPI it's very marginal for a 350. Don't think it will supply enough air for a 400!

That 400 will produce an ungodly of torque with the TPI until it runs out of air though. Swap in a stealth ram and some new heads and that 400 will make that car move.
