What would I have to buy to run a 383?
Would I have to upgrade the driveline and tranny?
any help would be good, I just need to know what all I am looking at buying to make the 383 run good and not break anything on the way down the road ^_^
also, Another Question.
Has anyone ever bought anything from golenengineservice.com?
I was thmbing through Chevy High Performance (This months) and on page 74 they have a good engine for 4k. 383ci/450hp/442 torque
so what all would I have to do to the engine/ My car to make it all work perfectly?
And is that engine any good? I mean, for the price and all, it is cheap, but it is still 4,000 grand more then I have in my pocket until next month ^_^

Well... lets just say that 4 g's is a very good starting point!
I started my project expecting to dish out 5 g's CND and now I'm in the hole for 12!!!
You'll definatly need to rebuild the rear dif. as a temporary fix or buy a new 9" or 12 bolt rear. The stock 10 bolts have no chance in hell of holding up to 400+ HP. The tranny will need quite a bit of work to but with about a G note it should be OK.
You also have to consider if you'll ever want to run power adders in the future. That way you can plan out you compression, cam profile, and piston design. Also, if you'll need to go forged or not!

I did have a tranny problem with my GM rebuilt A4. It broke after 6 months of doing a 383 swap. I got it rebuilt by www.rosslertrans.com and it lasted 3.5 years with me beating on it. Also I had earlier upgraded the rear end to have Richmond 3.73 gears and an Auburn Pro Series posi. The trick to doing it is to get a different cover for your rear end. One that is tougher than stamped steel and has screws in it to push against your end caps in the rear end for support.

So about 8 grand should do it if I am careful ^_^
I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas on where to get a good rear end, and a good place to get my trans fixed up and stuff (or replaced)
I'm wondering if I should just get a 6 spd manual to replace the 5 I have in there, but I not sure where I can buy something like that.
And another question, Would a 383 in a 86 camaro even be street legal in california? and would it even make hood clearance?
I've never seen a 'fixed' camaro around here, they all have messed up paint, stock exhaust, the 305 with nothing on it, but they always have 18+ rims ~_^ so I can't really ask any of them, and if I go to the police station, their just going to tell me its not legal
(they told me it would be illegal to put GTS light covers on.... Big steamy pile of bull)
Thank you for the help, atleast I now have a starting point on where to go
