Post Where can I get a good set of 3.73 gears for a 1989 Turbo TA?

Hey guys, I was wondering where I can get a good set of 3.73 gears for the 1989 Turbo TA. Are differentials all the same for all 3rd generation F-bodies? (7.5") This is one of my friends cars and I'm not too familiar with the turbo TA. Also, what is a good shift kit for it. Thanks

Well I can't remember which rear is in the 89tta 7.5 or dana44.For which brand your going to get mixed answers between Gm,richmond, etc There are alot of brands to choose from.Sorry if thats not much help. All of my cars had Gm factory gears put from 3.42-3.73-4.10.Gm seem to be the quitest but that all depends on the installer and how he sets them up.As far as shift kit goes transgo and art carr make good units.Hope that helps some what.

Thanks for the replies. I'll research more on what size differential that the Turbo TA has, however, I know for sure it's not the same as the Grand Nationals. By the way, which performance suppliers has the best prices for the gears? Also, what do you guys think about the quality of the SLP gears? The 3.73 gears (part #64046) are reasonably priced at $199.95. It says it fits 7.5" and 7.625" differentials on all the f-bodies between 1982-2001. From that, I'm assuming that it should fit the Turbo TA, but I need to be sure. Thanks again.

dont assume and buy first. probably 90% of the 86-89 trans ams and iroc-z's had the 9 bolt rear end. look at the rear end and if it has 9 bolts holding the back cover on, and has a black rubber plug on the back cover, its a 9 bolt. if its a 10 bolt, then those gears from SLP would fit. for 9 bolt parts, grit your teeth and go to www.9bolt.com

parts have to be imported for 9 bolts so they are expensive, but the rear end is pretty much unbreakable when set up right.

Both TTA's I've seen had the Dana 44 rear. Summit sells gears for those.

TTA's came stock with a 3.27 ratio 9-bolt rear end. Parts are available from forum member Miles at http://www.9bolt.com/

Why would you want to put 3.73 gears in there? the turbo motors like bigger gears, not smaller...just stick with the 3.27's, Pontiac went with them for a reason..

and TTA's came with 9-bolts, not Dana 44's...
