Wide Tires
#5
so would I man as I stated the 235's 245' and 255's are the tires that will fit right on them.....
too make 275's and 295's work with out wrecking them is you have too run them on low air pressure but then they don't live very long tho.........................

I have a few magazines reserved for "Important" info reguarding my 3rd Gen. One is a "Car Craft"(March 2000) article on "Biggest Meats for Your Muscle car". In there they tested wheel/tire combo's for many different year/model cars.
For the 3rd Gens:
**In 15" (15x8 wheel)they found that with a 4.5"backspacing front AND rear; a ratio of "55" or less, with a section width of 255.(ex; 255/50/15's)
>>This was the widest they could get w/o rubbing a tie-rod end or something.(I know some people running bigger tires, but they do rub every now & then..)
They also showed that the rim size really affected the tires actual size, they had 2 - 26 X 11.50's, with one on a 15" rim the other on a 16" rim; the one on the 16" rim was 1-Full inch taller, even with the "same designation" on the sidewall...Also the one on a wider rim was measurably wider than the same tire on a narrower rim.<<
**In 16's (16x8 wheel) they ended up with a 4 1/2" backspacing up front, and a 5 1/8" backspacing rear, they could use with ratio's less than "55" or less and a section width of 255.
**In 17" (17x9 wheel front) they ended up with a 5 1/2" backspacing up front and rear. And tires with an aspect raio of "40" or less, and section width of 255 front / 275 rear!
**In 18" (18x9 1/2"wheel) they arrived at a 5 1/2" backspacing front, and with an (18x10"wheel rear) backspacing of 6.0" they could get tires with raio's of 35 or less, and a section width of 275 front / 295 rear!!
As the rims get taller, they clear suspension parts easier, and can use wider tires...

I have the 15X7 Z28 rims I`ve seen the 215 65 15 and they are wayyyy to skinny I wouldn`t go past 255`s though because there the widest you can go that look good the tread is as wide as the rim and the side wall stick out just the right amount very sweet looking I might have some pics of the in my site
Sorry I don`t have any pics of the 255`s but the pics in my site are 235 60 15 all 4 corners
