Ya.. so how do I finish getting the brake-booster out?

Ya.. so how do I finish getting the brake-booster out?
Ya.. I took out 2 bolts that are side-by-side, and then two more bolts that were over-under each other. (These 4 are under the dash mind you..).
The brake-booster is still pretty d@mned tight. My friend comes over to help. He looks around some more, and he says there are 2-more bolts over-under each other.
The brake booster is free on the (looking at it from the front of the car) right side, but the left side is still sticking. Friend says it's because of those 2 other bolts under the dash.
BTW.. the master-cylinder is already off.
Anybody have any help? THanks a ton everybody,
Matt

Re: Ya.. so how do I finish getting the brake-booster out?
i took the brake booster off my 87 iroc, it was 4 bolts under the dash and the master cylinder just like you said, but i removed the pedals too (i was changing the clutch master cylinder and that was the only way)
it didnt seem like the pedals would stop me from removing the brake booster, but it was difficult to put the pedals and the booster back on without an extra set of hands
oh this may be a stupid question but i'll ask anyway
did u disconnect the booster from the brake pedal?

Re: Ya.. so how do I finish getting the brake-booster out?
My friend jim said that i dont have to disconnect the brake-pedal from the rod because the rod just slides out. BTW, my friend Nate slid that rod out anyways, so that won't matter any more
Zepher, I am thinking that the two bolts that are side-by-side were the wrong ones, and I need to get the ones that are over-under, correct?

Re: Ya.. so how do I finish getting the brake-booster out?
you slid the rod out of the booster?
a new booster comes with a rod i did not know this was detachable for our cars
if it helps the 4 nuts that hold the booster under the dash look exactly like the 2 nuts that hold the master cylinder to the booster

^so in other words they are side-by-side???? There are only 2 nuts under the dash that are side-by-side. There are another two that are over-under each other, and then another pair (that I haven't removed yet..) that are over-under each other.
My friend just slid that pin out of the brake-booster, along w/ come circuilar gasket that was around it.

I always remove the rod from the pedal, it is a very easy clip to remove.
The booster nuts are 15 or 16mm and the MC/nuts are 13mm I believe

Ya, I already have the sizes.. but the thing is, I dont know *which* bolts to be taking out. I already took 4 out, and only the (looking at it from the front of the car) right side is loose. The left side is still sticking or something.

Re: Ya.. so how do I finish getting the brake-booster out?
from what i remember the braket that holds the pedals blocks the view of the other two bolts there are two bolts to the right of the bracket and two bolts to the left, all in all 4 bolts the shape of a square
it sounds like u removed only two of the brake booster bolts and maybe a few other bolts, u may not be able to see the other two bolts to the left of the pedal bracket
i say do what i did, just start taking stuff apart till u get what u want
half the fun is figuring out how to put it back together

Re: Ya.. so how do I finish getting the brake-booster out?
Hm.. I already got 2-really-easy to get to bolts, that were like this " O O "
There was 2 bolts above those bolts that were a complete B*TCH to get to, and they were shaped like this " O "
O
NOW.. I see 2 more bolts shaped like this " O " on the far right, really FAR up in there, dashboard. O

Re: Ya.. so how do I finish getting the brake-booster out?
I'll try and snap some pics for you tomorrow as I am removing the pedals from my parts car.
You know, if you look at where the rod goes into the booster, the 4 bolts are in an X shape from the center.
Can you see how the pedals are held in place on the firewall as it goes over the steering column?

Yes, I can see how the pedals are held into place. I see the brackets mounted to the firewall.
The way your talking, I got all 4 of the necessary bolts out. I am thinking that the other 2 bolts that my friend found (which are way over by the gas pedal) are NOT for the booster
Pics would be a great help Manny
