Engine Swap BMW 5 Series to 84' Z28

Right now I am in the market for a replacement engine for my car. I have always wanted to upgrade to a 350 but never had a good reason to. Long story short, now I do.

A friend of mine suggested that I take his 99' BMW 5 series engine off his hands if it would work (at next to no cost). I know next to nothing about swapping engines and I'm interested in learning. I also know these things can get rather particular.

Question: Is this a good idea and if not, any suggestions for someone looking to spend no more than 2K to replace?

Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of someone puting a bmw motor into a american can, but plenty of the opposite. Good luck!

Looks like it can't be done. My mechanic says that I should drop his 305 in there and he will pull out all the Cali emissions junk. Should I hold out for the 350? Is there any suggestions on where to go?
