I just broke my second input sprag in 2 weeks. What the heck is going on?

I just broke my transmission for the 4th time tonight in a month and a half. From what I have learned, I just broke the input sprag again. I'd say the only part it will need will be the sprag and a fresh band and 3-4 clutches. I already have:

5 pinion front and rear planets
Art Carr super input drum
Art Carr super sun shell
Billet 2-3 servo
Billet 3-4 servo
Alto wide band
Alto clutches and steels for 3-4
13 vane pump
eliminated accumulators
.500 boost valve and spring

I am sure I am forgetting something but I think you get the picture. This will make the second time I have broken the input sprag.

Any ideas???? Currently, this is my only source of transportation and the transmissions have lasted an average of 300 miles each. One lasted about 600 miles and another lasted about 1000.

My car currently only has a Borla exhaust and a cold air.

How are you driving the car? ONLY abuse will kill the sprag..point blank. You may not even realize you are abusing it.

I only use NEW GM Sprag ASSY(not used) and in stall new 29 element duel cage sprag from Borg Warner.

They say with the new Races you can use the Factory sprag...but I am not a believer.

i find they usually get broken from jumping on and off the throttle allot. This goes from free wheel to engage over and over. this hammers the hell out of the sprag. Some trying a diode but they can not take it either. actually they take it even less but hold Continued HP better.

i would be glad to help you as much as I can from Seattle

As mentioned above, what are you doing to kill the sprag?

At the 1-2 shift, the intermediate sprag must stop the rotation of the sun gear, sun gear shaft and direct clutch drum which are rotating at around 2.5 times the input shaft speed.

Doing a burnout while in first or second gear then lifting off the gas quickly or having the tires grip dry pavement and stop spinning will destroy a typical 9 element sprag. Upgrading to a 34 element sprag and hub is the best way to go.

Make sure the transmission is in high gear before lifting off the throttle.

I don't do any burnouts in my car. Ever. I do jump on the gas when I am leaving the stop light. If I am getting on the highway, I am on it until I am up to speed. My car has 3.42 gears if that is of any help.

I just installed the new GM sprag that is one piece. I know there was an older one that the gear piece actually just slid in; I have the new one where the sprag and the part that goes in the front planet is one piece.

When it broke this evening, I was taking a guy at the cruise in for a ride to see if he had any reason as to why the trans was failing. I had just told him my shifts were firm and precise when the sprag snapped and my ABS INOP light came on due to the shock.

Ellis: Any help you are able to give me is greatly appreciated. I don't have the money to build my trans every week. Do you see anything else I should go with in my trans or is there anything you would not do??
