1997 hid

1997 Camaro SS HID conversion kits? Projector kits? Did a search, came up with "do it yourself" kits. Any company make/sell these? Thanks everyone

there used to be a company that sold the unsealed headlight housing. I think the quality was bad though. Cheap plastic maybe?

From what I've read the HID bulb would produce a terrible beam pattern in our housings anyway. I'm interested in trying anything though. The stock housings/bulbs are terrible.

I agree. Its just crazy that companies have not come out with a direct replacement housing and bulb that arent $800. I'm looking to replace the low and high beam with hid conversions. I'm tires of the shi**y headlights we have.

Since the beam pattern would be bad/blinding I thought about putting some HIDS in my high beams only. That way I can just flip back to teh crappy low beams when other motorists are in front of me.

There have been guys using the Hella projectors with good success. You would need to piece everything together on your own, as nobody makes jack for our cars, with regards to lighting. Seems like you have to step up to a 98+ front end, to make use of the halo projectors. For the firebird (which I have), it's even worse. Shallow headlight bucket means very difficult aftermarket lighting placement.

Try this link. These guys can help you put together what you need.

I have searched that site. The lights look good but like you said you have to piece them together. I did find direct replacement housings with bulbs and electrical to run the HID's but tehy are like $400.00 for low and $400.00 for high beam. Thats just waayyy too much for headlights. I guess we're just sol when it comes to moderizing our models.

You can use your existing high beams, which would save you some money. Besides, a true HID kit is going to cost money. The cheap ones are going to give you more light, but will create glare, and will scatter light all over the place. This is something worth doing right.

How did you guys adjust how far the buld goes into the housing? Just stick it in there till the bulb touches the housing and glue it up? I have bulbs just a little scared to try it

There are a few good threads on this out there (not too hard to find). I swapped to HID's in my 95 Z28 (thread> https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...&highlight=HID).

Here's a really good thread on a guy who did projectors that were badazz!
