Re: black piece on the back off SS's

This panel is a throw back to the 69 Copo cars. GMMG offers the black rear panel on the Berger SS, Berger Hot Rod cars, Dick Harrell car, Tom Henry SS's, DE Intimidator SS, and the ZL-1 Super Cars.

The real panel you can pick up from Ecklers Camaro or GMparts direct.com here is a tech article that was done on my car http://www.01pewterz28.com/tailpanel.htm

Here is my GMMG "satin black" w/ hi-polished Camaro letters.

Does GMMG sell the panel by itself? Doesnt say so on the site.

I doubt it. They want you to buy the whole car.

You've got to buy the panel and paint it.

Re: black piece on the back off SS's

why would someone buy a new panel and paint it when all they have to do is take their old one off and paint it?

It gives you the option of returning to the stock look without having to have the panel paint matched and re-shot all over again. Well worth the small coin IMO.

Re: black piece on the back off SS's

I have seen one other camaro in town with the black rear panel so i'm planning on doing it on my HO SS as well. I have a 69 which will get the same treatment when it's repainted. Also its not a throwback to the 69 COPO cars it's a throw back to first gens with big blocks. I'm not positive about the 67 but i'm sure the 68-69 big block SS's all got a black rear panel. It was an identifying mark only given to the big block cars.

Re: black piece on the back off SS's

I just did it this weekend on my 94 Z, Its red and I masked off the camaro letters so they would stay red and I think it looks great. Of course I had to paint outside so its not perfect but then again my car is just a racing bucket that will never win any awards for its looks.
Like I always say, its YOUR car do whatever the hell you like and let the haters go spit.
