drilling a real pool ball for shift ****
anyone know how i could do this? my dad thinks there has to be some way to put a plastic insert that is threaded in there how the stock ***** come but im thinking just drill it and tap it, but what would be the best way to drill a round ball? basically looking for anyone who has tried this and has succeeded.

Ok, first off take a dremel and cut through the outer spot and just create a divit; it'll make drilling a ton easier; this can be done with a file as well.
Then, just a drill-press and a vice, and head to town.
Then don't pull it out of the vice, and insert the threaded tube and JB Weld it in there.
That's how I've done pool-***** before; I've done 8-*****, 9-*****, Que-*****, and a 3-ball for a kid.

i almost actually thought about selling these at one point....
very easy to make provided you have the right tools/access to machinery. (luckily, I work in a machine shop, so i do)
1: take ball
2:wrap in plastic wrap or other extremely malable shipping material (has to be slip resisitent, and so the surface doesn't get damaged)
3: sqeeuze it into the vice of a bridgeport.
4:using the SLOWEST speed, and a 3/8" end mill, sink it in
5:I forgot the thread size of a t-56, but after it's figured out, get 3/8" riv-nuts with the matching thread pattern, and insert riv-nut
6:voila!
made a few of these at work, mostly for people with hondas, but they worked fine none-the-less

Re: drilling a real pool ball for shift ****
I had one in my S10 back in highschool....drilled it with a press and a small bit. had to rough the spot up a bit to get it to bite, and I used a Helicoil for the threads with some epoxy. Worked great.
