Re: Finished t top conversion.

do you have any pics of where the tops actually lock into place? do you have to fabricate a plate for the latches or anything. ive read all the manuals but still never get any clear pics on how that part works out.

It really is a simple conversion. I plan on doing a step by step instuction with the added things I did that the other guys who have web pages didn't do.

I will post some pictures soon of where they actually lock. Basically no plate is needed. When you cut the side supports, you make a generous cut allowing for a "fudge" factor. The actual mounting brackets for the t-top female bracket are inside these rails. What I did to achieve the factory look on the a pilliar where it meets the windshield was to make a cut parallel to the windshield about 1 inch away roughly 3 inches long. Then hammered it flat to create the channel. Then I tacked it down. I left the cut piece long so that I could get a good bite on the metal with hand seamers and bent it up at a 90 degree angle to form the weather strip lip. I then trimmed the excess off with snips. The same was done with the rear. These cut areas were filled with fiberglass filler and sanded smooth. Then primed and putty filled. Resanded, reprimed, sanded and painted with lacquer. i will be providing a web page soon detailing an actual step by step instruction. Any other questions let me know.
