My philosophy on hoods, prepare to comment!

Dont you know that makes their cars/trucks/suv's run alot better?? Thats a ghetto thing and the morons are complete idiots. Also along with the big hoods...... The huge ricer wings some people stick on the f-bodies.

I used to have a similar opinion with Brangeta, but at the very least most of these hoods save weight. Although the silver one, on page one, that one is infact barf unless he has a Big Block under there.

He didn't say the regular SS hoods look bad, just the huge ones. For the most part, I agree with him. I've never liked the look of a cowl on an 4th Gen Camaro - it doesn't flow with the rest of the car.
The one with the stripes looks pretty good though. I think the stripes help pull it all together - very nice job.

Wow, this topic is a year old. My opinion is still the same, or perhaps slightly different. I think cowl hoods should never be put on 4th gens, and I think Trans Am style hoods should never be put on Camaros.
The only hoods I really like are....
-stock Camaro hood
-SS hood
-SS hood with scoop from earlier or later model 4th gen on it
-Ultra Z hood if you have the Ultra Z spoiler as well
-Dick Harrell hood if you HAVE a Dick Harrell
-the absolute smallest cowl Harwood makes, assuming they make one even smaller than the one below
-and lastly, the modified SS style hood... I think the one on the left, the one on the right is stock SS hood I think
I think it's the one on the right in this pic. I wish I knew who made it. Any ideas?
This one is acceptable, but only if your car has flames to distract people from looking at the boxy cowl
For LT1 cars, I like stock, modified (flatter) SS style hood, and SS hood best in that order.
For LS1 cars, I like SS best of all. The other hoods I like considerably less.

A quick google search pulled up this site which sells two neat hoods. http://www.cincyramairhoods.com/
'98-'02 style SS scoop on '93-'97 hood
this SS hood has a wider air inlet without grill, but the actual scoop doesn't look too much wider to me than stock (IF ANY WIDER)
here's a stock SS hood (on a REAL stock SS) to compare to
another stock one:

That's what I came here to say. Stock hoods are heavy; some aftermarket hoods are made of fiberglass and are significantly lighter.
In general, I agree that stock hoods look best. There are a few tasteful aftermarket ones out there, but for some reason most people don't buy those.

I'm really opposed to the two nostril TransAm style on Camaro's, dang that bad. I've considered getting a cowl, just do I could clear a LS1 style intake system, not really for looks...weight being the only other factor.
